TOWN HALL BUILDING TOWN OF THURSTON, NEW YORK

The Town of Thurston previously operated out of a single room renovated service station. Many of the town officials had to work out of their homes and shared the duty of storing town records in their homes. The Town purchased land several years ago with the idea of building a new Town Hall when funding became available. AJH Design staff were contracted to develop the design for the new Town Hall and follow the project through construction. A conceptual design was developed for the 2,500 square foot building and a comprehensive construction cost estimate was developed so all construction options could be explored. What turned out to be the most cost effective for the Town and their needs was modular construction. The final design was reworked to work with the modular approach and the project was bid to several contractors and modular manufacturers. The design also included an unfinished basement that is accessible from the backside of the building utilizing the sloping topography of the site. The new building houses the Town Clerk, Town Justice, Assessors, Town Supervisor, Town Historian, and has a court room, board room, and climate controlled record storage room.
